Productive is a very good word. It is my favorite “P” word. To be productive with your time, productive in your tasks, earn a productive income, is, well, productive. Consistent is a very good word, too. It is my favorite “C” word. You cannot be productive without being consistent. System is another very good word. It is my favorite “S” word. I love systems and cannot be productive in business or life, for that matter, without them. And what does all this have to do with marketing your services successfully? You cannot market your services successfully without productivity, consistency or systems. Here’s how my three favorite business words relate to successful marketing.
Set aside time to market your services
If you want your business to be productive, you must set aside time to invest in your business. Organize your time by organizing or managing your tasks. This could mean delegating tasks or learning new software and how to use it to streamline your tasks or outsource time-consuming work.

Develop a System
Write a to-do list the night before (always – set up an alert in your calendar to remind you to create a to-do list each night). Make sure your to-dos are listed in order of importance.
Since you are developing a system, put “Break down each individual day by Money Making Activities (writing blog posts, posting blog posts to social media, creating and scheduling newsletters and email campaigns), Business Making Activities (marketing my own business: writing blog posts, posting to social media, networking, building my email list, tweaking and updating your website, etc) and Customer Maintenance Activities (checking for and responding to client emails, holding planning calls) on my online calendar” at the top of that to-do list. Give yourself a couple of hours of uninterrupted planning time. Break down your daily work hours into 2 hours for MMAs and 30 minutes for each BMA and CMA. Breaking down each individual day will take some time to do initially, and tweaking it as you go is a given, but the to-do system you develop will be one of those “best-ever” things in your business. Trust me. See Brian Basilico’s blog on this system and check out his Productivity Bundle.
Set up 15-minute alerts to remind you that it’s almost time to stop what you are working on and move on to the next scheduled activity. This part will take self-discipline, but sticking to your new system is the key to helping you get the most out of your time (productive).
Do all of the above consistently, and you’ll be amazed at your productivity!
Fall in love with the simplicity of this system to market your services successfully. Over-thinking while planning is a common mistake and very disabling. Just start. Start small and give yourself room to grow and improve. Take notes on what is working and what is not, then tweak away.
Setting up a business system to market your services successfully and implementing that system consistently on a daily basis will give you the productivity you are looking for. Try it, then share with me in the comments how it worked for you. I’d love to know how it helped.
